During the past several months, there has been a frenzy of fundraising in the political world, and people’s attention has largely focused on that. Now that the election is over, it has become even more apparent that Solstice plays the role of homeopathic remedy or an antidote to the “WILD World” in which we live.
Arts not only enliven a community; creativity is essential to human development, and to solving the problems the world faces today.
Remember the Einstein quote?
"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them"
Solstice is one of those creative spaces in our community where connections and life changing experiences can happen. Besides learning new skills applicable to life and work, participants experience creative collaboration -- learning how to work together to create something much bigger than themselves. Carrying an idea from vision to completion is an invaluable life skill!
If you have not experienced the 2-month Workshop, you may have only an inkling of what goes into the creation of this amazing parade and production that brings so much joy, smiles, and a respite from the struggles of everyday life! Solstice provides hands-on participation in the arts. We have one of the most diverse work-spaces in Santa Barbara because we invite everyone -- experienced and unexperienced, young and old, from all walks of life, social and economic status to explore their creativity. Solstice provides opportunities to the underserved, the elderly, people with physical, neurological, visible and invisible disabilities.
Despite what is going on in the world at large, we can all can put energy into our local community where we can make changes happen that we can actually see. What Solstice brings to our Santa Barbara community is really needed during these troubling times. Solstice is a community, and produces year-round enagement events, "parties with a purpose", and workshop. It's not just a Parade! Solstice is a unique expression of who we are as a community - a celebration of life, art, creativity and our humanity!
