On March 12th Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California public health officials issued an updated policy on gatherings to protect public health and slow the spread of COVID-19. The state's public health experts have determined that gatherings should be postponed or canceled across the state until at least the end of March. Non-essential gatherings must be limited to no more than 250 people, while smaller events can proceed only if the organizers can implement social distancing of 6 feet per person. Today, on March 16th the CDC has updated the recommendation to limit gatherings to no more than 50 persons for the next 8 weeks. These dates puts us into challenging and uncertain territory.
Currently, our community workshop is on schedule to open in May and the Santa Barbara Solstice Festival is planned for June 19-21, 2020. Although, at the current time, this is outside of the public health advisory, we, as one of the largest arts festivals in Santa Barbara County, are taking this very seriously. We are closely monitoring the situation and due to the uncertainty of this rapidly evolving public health issue, putting plans in place should a postponement or modification to the scope of our event be necessary. The health and safety of our community is our number one priority. We will continue to provide updates.
Wash your hands, eat healthily, get some movement in and call, text and video chat with your friends in lieu of gatherings and in-person meetings. There are tons of ways to connect and we need each other now more than ever. Certainly stay home if you're feeling sick, or see a health professional.
