Summer Solstice Virtual Parade 2021

BLOOM!

We want you to get involved in celebrating Solstice and our community.  You can participate in our Virtual State Street Parade, Virtual Community Parade, and/or our Blooming Gardens

Virtual State Street Parade

This year we are bringing State Street to YOU with our 2021 Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Virtual State Street Parade!

We will be hosting a parade filled with light, color, music, dance and motion all on Virtual State Street.  Master of ceremonies and artistic director, Riccardo Morrison, will be your host.

Calling All Drummers, Dancers and Dreamers!

Get ready to bloom with energy and excitement in your bright, bold, sparkling creation and help us capture the Santa Barbara Summer Solstice spirit in our virtual State Street parade.  We can’t do it without you!

 

We are opening the workshop to groups of 10 or less to be filmed in front of a green screen and put on State Street post production, for our Virtual State Street Parade!  Filming is by appointment only.  Appointment times can be scheduled during these hours:

  • Monday, May 10th 11am - 3pm

  • Tuesday, May 11th 3pm - 7pm

  • Wednesday, May 12th 3pm - 7pm

  • Saturday, May 15th 12pm - 4pm

  • Thursday, May 20th, 3pm - 7pm

  • Friday, May 21st, 3pm - 5pm

  • Friday, June 4th, 3pm - 7pm

  • Saturday, June 5th, 12pm - 4pm

 

LOCATION: Community Arts Workshop at 631 Garden Street, Santa Barbara, CA

Appointments will be made in 1/2 hour increments. 

Groups of greater than 10 may schedule filming at Chase Palm Meadow, Saturday, May 22nd between 11-4.

Virtual Community Parade

​We so loved the creativity and community spirit that found its way into our 2020 Virtual Parade that we wanted to give every Solstice supporter, where ever they may be, at home or across the country an opportunity to do it again!  Come, be part of our Community Parade.  The video will include the Virtual State Street Parade as well as all individual home grown video and photos. The Virtual Community Parade will be released on the Solstice YouTube Channel, June 27th. 

​​If you haven't yet had an opportunity to see our 2020 Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Virtual Parade (remake), click here.  You will be amazed and inspired by all of the incredible creativity! And we love that it is homegrown, just like us! Submissions may include dance, music, floats, animation, your imagination is the only limit!

Guidelines for submitting your video or pictures for the Virtual Community Parade

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO:  June 21st

Photos:

 

Individual photos should be submitted as a .jpg in horizontal format at least 150 dpi, no smaller than 500 kb, no bigger than 5 MB.   Size should be approximately 12"w x 8".

 

Videos:

 

Individuals/family:

 

Limited to 20 seconds per family/individual.  Video can be recorded on your smart phone, tablet or camera in "landscape" or "horizontal" orientation. We can also accept Zoom recorded videos. When you record your video, please allow three seconds pre-roll at the beginning and three seconds at the end for a frozen "Pose." This means there will be only 10-14 seconds of action. You can dance and move to music to get you in the Solstice spirit and mood.  However, the sound from your video will not be used in the virtual parade.  We will be adding a sound track during the editing process.

 

Ensembles and Floats:

 

1 minute 30 seconds per ensemble. Video can be recorded on your smart phone, tablet or camera in "landscape" or "horizontal" orientation. We can also accept Zoom recorded videos. When you record your video, please allow three seconds pre-roll at the beginning and three seconds at the end for a frozen "Pose." This means there will be 1 minute 24 seconds for the ensemble.  You can record your piece separately, or in the same household, using appropriate social distancing.   Please submit the music separately as an mp3 file.  If necessary we can use the mp3 file and sync it to your performance, to improve audio quality.

 

Formats:

 

Most video formats are acceptable. Preferred video formats are quicktime, mov, mp4, wmv, avi; and preferred sizes are : 1920 x 1080 (HD) or 1280 x 1080 (HD) with H264 compression.

For audio, please include an mp3 music file.

We transfer is a free service. You do not have to sign up.   Please include your first and last name in the filename and subject line and a brief description of your video in the "Message" box section as well as contact information.
